HOW TO CLEAN ESPADRILLES: FIRST THINGS FIRST

Can you wash espadrilles? Yes, of course – as long as you use the right techniques and adapt them to the materials used to make your favorite shoes. But before we dive into how to clean espadrilles, let’s first go over a few little tips.
Before wearing and later washing your espadrilles, we recommend waterproofing them. This simple step will reduce staining and stop dirt from sticking to them. Choose a product suited to your shoes (fabric, leather, etc.) and ideally look after your shoes in this way twice a month if you wear them regularly. You may also want to dust them using a soft cloth or a soft-bristle brush.

CLEANING ESPADRILLES ACCORDING TO THE MATERIAL

To clean leather espadrilles, use a polish (either clear or in the same color). Apply a very small amount to the shoe before polishing with a soft cloth. Use a special cleaner or renovator spray to clean nubuck or suede espadrilles (you can also buy specific erasers for stubborn stains). As far as cleaning fabric espadrilles is concerned, you can use a bit of mild hand soap or a foam fabric cleaner.
No matter the material your shoes are made from, we strongly advise against machine washing as this could warp and shrink the rope on the soles.

CARING FOR ESPADRILLES: THE FINAL STEP

Now that you know how to clean espadrilles, let’s look at how to dry them. There is only one rule to follow here: leave them to air-dry away from any direct sources of heat.
By following these few rules for cleaning your espadrilles, these chic and comfortable shoes will stay looking beautiful season after season and year after year. There’s no need to limit yourself when wearing these must-have basics, so enjoy mixing and matching them with all your favorite looks!
