Can espadrilles be washed in the washing machine?

Canvas shoes can usually be machine washed, but this is best avoided when cleaning your espadrilles. Espadrilles and washing machines don’t mix well.

Handwashing is best, if possible. Washing your espadrilles by hand will avoid damage to the shoe and, above all, the soles, which could be weakened by machine washing.

To clean the soles, use a damp sponge and a few drops of soap. Wash your soles gently, using light, circular motions.

To clean the canvas part of your shoes, a mixture of 2/3 warm water, 1/3 white vinegar, and a drop of dish soap will work great. Gently rub the shoe with a small brush soaked in the mixture. Wipe all over with a damp sponge and then dry your shoes with a clean cloth.
